Roy Clements

Born in Derry in 1934 and educated at Foyle College and Magee, Roy Clements left the banks of the Foyle in 1964 to gain fame and fortune in England. Since then, Roy has retained and nurtured an emigrant’s love for his home town and its people. In Memory of Memories of Derry, the author shares his personal recollections of his earlier years with similar impressions and experiences captured by such contemporaries as Brian Friel, Tomas O Canainn, James Simmons and others. He also chronicles and explores many of the social and economic developments that have shaped the city over the decades; from the shirt industry and the corner shops to the Budgen Express and the city’s sporting traditions.

The many colourful characters who have contributed greatly to Derry’s unique and well-loved personality are not forgotten and they are portrayed with fond admiration.
